My interests in dairying systems and on farm consultancy started about 10 years ago when I was pondering what am I am going to do if I partake in an Agricultural Science Degree at La Trobe University. Dairy farming seemed very appealing because the leading farmers were always using a balance of science and economics to base their management decisions. A decade later, and I still believe dairying has it all. Whilst at University, I always directed my studies towards the dairy industry. Projects such as studying the effects of body condition on feed intake and pasture substitution was work that was of great value and interest. After University, I partook in some travel/work around Australia. In that time my activities included
In the last 3.5 years, I have been working with Target 10 (Colac) and with Bonlac Foods (Cobden). This has been an excellent building block for me. Animal nutrition, pasture and crop agronomy, farm business and performance analysis, effluent management, and all the industry issues that revolve around working for a milk company kept the last 3.5 years interesting. In the future I wish to focus on business analysis, looking at where strengths and opportunities lie. With so much technological jargon given to farmers, I look forward to simplifying the decision making process for our clients. | ||
